Occidental Mindoro Jolted by 5.5 Magnitude Earthquake
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded that a 5.5 magnitude quake jolted Occidental Mindoro today, May 4, 2019.
Almost every day, quakes occur in different areas around the world. One of the countries that is usually hit by it is the Philippines. Phivolcs has recently recorded several quakes in the different areas in PH.
In 2018, among the records of Phivolcs is a series of five(5) quakes that hit Surigao del Sur. Fortunately, there were no reports of injury or damages caused by the quake.
Recently, Phivolcs recorded another quake jolting an area in PH today, May 4, 2018.
According to Phivolcs, a 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolted Occidental Mindoro today, May 4, 2019. It was located at 12.38°North, 120.81°East – 020 km South 64° West of Rizal in Occidental Mindoro.
The quake was tectonic in origin and has a 006 depth of focus. Here is a list of the reported instrumental intensities:

- Malinao, Aklan, Sebaste & Culasi,Antique
- Calatagan, Batangas
- San Nicolas, Batangas

Intensity III
- Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro
- Lipa City, Batangas
- Malay, Aklan
Intensity IV
- San Jose, Occidental Mindoro
Based on the bulletin released by Phivolcs, no damage is expected of the quake but there may be aftershocks.
