Vote Buyers & Sellers Could Go To Jail, Comelec Says
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) warned the Filipino people that vote buyers and sellers could go to jail for an election offense.
Over the past few decades, vote buying has been very popular not only in the Philippines but also in different countries all over the world.
Most people usually accept money in exchange for their votes due to extreme poverty and financial necessities.
Recently, Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez warned both candidates and voters regarding the selling and buying of votes.
Jimenez said that voters and candidates might face corresponding sanctions and penalties for vote buying and selling.
Candidates buying votes could be disqualified, pay fines, and even send to jail whole voters selling votes might pay fines.
“It’s an election offense. You can be sent to jail, you can be fined and you can be disqualified from holding public office. Both ‘yan, both the buyer and the seller,” Jimenez said.
Comelec also discouraged the Filipino voters not to take the money from candidates buying votes.
