Luzon grid is on red alert – NGCP
National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) placed the Luzon grid on red and yellow alert on Tuesday, April 23, following the strong earthquake.
Between 10 am to 4 pm, the red alert is effective while the yellow alert is between 9 am to 10 am and 4 pm to 10 pm. A massive earthquake hit several areas in Luzon yesterday afternoon.
Based on a previous report, the 6.1 magnitude earthquake last Monday was the strongest for this year, so far. Last year, the strongest earthquake with 7.2 magnitude happened in Davao.
The recent massive earthquake has destroyed many buildings and houses in Luzon. Porac, Pampanga is now under the state of calamity where 5 people, reportedly, died when a 4-story building collapsed.
Porac Municipality Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz stated, “Ito ‘yung pinakamalakas na lindol na nakita namin, parang umaalon ‘yung lupa. Hindi biro.”
Based on the report from social media news site Rappler, at 5:20 pm yesterday, the NGCP also issued a red alert notice immediately after the quake. This was for the reason that there were failures in several power plants.
