Davao’s Foremost Anti-Martial Law ‘Yellow’ Activist is Soledad Duterte

DAVAO – Philanthropist Soledad Duterte is Davao City’s foremost anti-martial law activist.

Politician Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte served as mayor in Davao City for several years which is now succeeded by his daughter inday Sara Duterte.

Philippine President Duterte is one of the most controversial president in the country for his way of managing the country.

Little did we know, President Duterte’s late mother Soledad Duterte was among Davao City’s “Yellow Friday Movement.”

Nanay Soling acted as mother of the activists. She was always there to rescue them from being caught by the military.

Based on a report from GMA News, Konsensya Dabaw stated Digong acknowledged that his mother contributed on the protection of the Pinoy’s freedom and right during the martial law.

“President Rodrigo Duterte himself acknowledged that his mother, Nanay Soling Duterte, was among the leaders of the ‘Yellow Friday Movement’ in the city,” said Konsensya Dabaw.

According to the report, Soledad Duterte is among the leaders of the anti-martial law movement who supported the candidacy of the late president Cory Aquino.

The movement was created after the assignation of former senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.

The people in Davao City also experienced detentions, tortures, illegal arrest, and being slain. The local officials during that time were allies of the late Ferdinand Marcos.

“All these affirmed Davao’s connectedness to—rather than superiority over—the rest of the peoples and communities of Mindanao laboring for societal transformation,” said Konsensya Dabaw.

Based on the report, Konsensya Dabaw stated that the Davaeño have always known for being strong and maintaining their rights and freedom.

“Thus, Davao and its people have long-standing traditions of asserting rights and freedoms, as well as creating and holding multiple spaces where these can be expressed and claimed by different groups”
