The House Bill 8858 seeking to reduce the criminal responsibility age from 15 to 12 years faces opposition from some lawmakers and some people.
Recently, the Social Weather Stations (SWS) in partnership with the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) released the survey results regarding the age of criminal responsibility.
The survey results show that majority of the Filipino people still supports the minimum age of criminal liability to 15 years old.
1,500 respondents from the Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao participated on the survey, according to SWS president Mahar Mangahas.
Seven out of 10 opposed the child imprisonment and suggested of placing them under the custody of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
