Warning About Possible 7.1 Magnitude Earthquake in Metro Manila Circulates, Phivolcs Reacts

PHIVOLCS – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reacted to the warning about the alleged possible 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Metro Manila going on online.

Most of the time, earthquakes come with no signs. Sudden shaking would just be felt by the residents in a particular area jolted by the quake and many awaits the bulletin of Phivolcs for details.

The said Philippine national institution is the one that provides information regarding earthquakes and volcanic activities. It is also the one behind the tsunami warning advisories.

Almost every day, Phivolcs records not less than three(3) earthquakes shaking different parts of the Philippines. In the bulletin it provides, it states the location of the quake, its depth, magnitude, and the time it hit.

Furthermore, the national institution also reveals information on whether there are expected aftershocks. The bulletins are posted on its official Twitter page with the user handle @phivolcs_dost.

Recently, on its Twitter page, Phivolcs posted a statement regarding the warning about the possible 7.1 magnitude earthquake in Metro Manila that circulates online.

The institution clarified that the warning is not from them and they have no enough basis to release such warning. According to the institution, there is still no device that could predict the occurrence of a quake.
