Sandiganbayan Allows former First Lady Imelda Marcos to Post Bail for her Temporary Freedom

IMELDA MARCOS – The Sandiganbayan allowed former First Lady and Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos to post a bail for her temporary freedom.

Recently, former First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos was found guilty by the Sandiganbayan of seven (7) counts of graft. Each count sentences her to not less than six years and one month and not more than 11 years of imprisonment.

The charges against the Ilocos Norte Representative is over her using of her position in the Cabinet to maintain the Swiss accounts during the regime of her late husband, former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

Previously, former First Lady Imelda Marcos posted a bail of Php 150,000.00. She is set to pursue post-conviction remedies.

Based on a report on GMA News Online, the justices of the Sandiganbayan recently granted the “Motion for Leave to Avail of Post Conviction Remedies” filed by the former First Lady.

While she is pursuing post-conviction remedies, she can have her temporary freedom by posting a bail of Php 300,000.00. It was the 5th Division that set the amount for the bail of the Ilocos Norte Representative.

Based on the report, in the resolution dated November 28, 2018, it stated that the rules of the court “allow an accused to continue enjoying provisional liberty during the pendency of an appeal or a motion for reconsideration”.
