Chinese Coast Guard Drives Pinoy Reporters Away From Scarborough

The Chinese coast guard drives Filipino reporters away from the disputed Scarborough or popularly known as Panatag Shoal.

The team from GMA reporter’s notebook had a close encounter with the Chinese coast guard and urged to leave Scarborough Shoal immediately.

The group sailed with the same fishermen they have been with six months ago after their first travel to the disputed island.

The reporters returned to check the situation in the area since some personnel of China Coast Guard was taking the catch of the Filipino fishermen a few months ago.

Panatag Shoal was just 124 nautical miles off Masinloc, Zambales within the 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone of the Philippines.

Scarborough was known for having a plenty of good fish and calm water, which is dubbed as fishermen’s haven.

While the team is sailing, the China Coast Guard moves towards the Filipino reporters and finally caught them up.

The fishermen told the team of reporters to hide their camera and equipment but the coast already spotted them.

“Without the permission of China, you cannot carry out the interview here,” the Chinese personnel said.

One of the reporters explained that they are still within the exclusive economic zone of the Philippines.

Unfortunately, the China Coast Guard threatened them of using force if they would not leave the area.

“If you don’t leave here, we will make a forced matter,” the Chinese said quoted by GMA.
