Boracay Now Open, DOT Chief Advises Tourists To Be Responsible
After six months of rehabilitation, Boracay Island is now open but DOT chief Bernadette Romulo-Puyat advised the tourists to be responsible.
The world-famous tourist destination is now open to the public after six months of the rehabilitation process.
Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu said that the powdery white shores of Boracay are spotless after the level of fecal coliform gone down after the rehabilitation.
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said that the visitors should be responsible and ensure that they booked in authorized hotels only.
“Please be responsible tourists. We’ve cleaned up Boracay. There’s no more trash. It’s beautiful,” Puyat said.
Puyat said that 157 resorts and hotels with 7,308 rooms have been only allowed to operate since the island could only handle 19,215 people.
The tourist should also manage their expectation since some roads are still under construction.
President Rodrigo Duterte is also satisfied with the outcome of the six-month rehabilitation of Boracay Island.
“Definitely, the President, in fact, has commended the secretaries of the task force for the development of this place,” Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said.
