NHA Slams Richard Gomez’s Complaint On Substandard Housing Project

NHA fired back to Richard Gomez regarding his complaint on alleged substandard housing project

National Housing Authority (NHA) slammed the complaint of Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez regarding the alleged substandard housing project in his jurisdiction.

It can be recalled that the actor-politician showed dissatisfaction to the work of the agency when he visited the site.

Based on a previous article, the Mayor mentioned that he does not care about the “bigayan” in the agency but he wants to assure the quality that his constituents deserve to have.

Regarding this complaint from Richard Gomez, the NHA expressed their side. According to an ABS-CBN report, the agency clarified that the materials used in the housing project are not substandard.

NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada challenged Gomez to cancel the building permit of the project if he is not satisfied of the outcome.

Moreover, Head for Operations Engr. Victor Balba iterated that they are following a certain standard.

This statement was echoed by NHA Regional Manager Engr. Rizalde Mediavillo.

“Hindi talaga substandard, mas superior pa nga,” Mediavillo said.

They also explained how the hollow blocks were placed together. According to them, it is called “stacking method”.

NHA also said that this should not be a basis that one can conclude the sturdiness of the structure.

“Yung mga butas ng hollow blocks natin, pag nilagyan mo siya ng kongkreto, parang nagiging mini column siya,” Balba pointed out.

On the other hand, Richard Gomez is not convinced with their explanation.

The Mayor shared a video showing that the hollow blocks can be broken easily. He added that he has the right to inspect the housing project without giving notice to the agency.

Gomez also challenge Escalada to just resign from his post as the NHA General Manager.

Meanwhile, hundreds of residents in Ormoc City are waiting for the time that they could transfer to the houses, based on the report.
