DENR Eyes Access Bracelets & Tap Cards For Boracay Tourists

Boracay Tourists May Be Required To Have Access Bracelets & Tap Cards On Island’s Reopening

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) was planning to require Boracay tourists to have access bracelets and tap cards.

DENR announced that Boracay visitors might be required to avail tap cards and access bracelets to regulate the number of tourists on the island.

The security measure was expected to be approved by the Boracay Inter-Agency Task Force before the re-opening of the popular tourist destination.

Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu said that they will conduct a dry run from October 16-25, 2018 before the re-opening of Boracay Island.

“The dry run will allow us to assess what else needs to be done before the island is reopened to tourists,” Cimatu said quoted by Philstar.

DENR announced that tap cards will be available at the Caticlan Jetty Port for P25 to P30 as a deposit to enter the tourist spot.

The tap card can be also used as an alternative payment scheme in purchasing foods or paying island services.

Only 6, 405 tourists would be initially allowed to visit Boracay Island daily after its reopening, according to DENR.
