Sen. Sotto Surrenders Proposed Revisions Of PH National Anthem
Senate President Vicente Sotto III surrendered his proposal on revising few lines of the Philippine national anthem after receiving criticisms.
Earlier this week, Senator Sotto has suggested changing the last few lines of the country’s national anthem entitled “Lupang Hinirang”.
Sotto described the line “Aming ligaya na ’pag may mang-aapi, ang mamatay nang dahil sa ‘yo” as defeatist.
The politician suggested replacing the last line with the lyrics of “ang ipaglaban kalayaan mo” citing the rendition of Joey Ayala of singing the national anthem.
The 70-year-old politician explained that Joey Ayala’s rendition has the correct pronunciation and intonation.
Recently, the Senate president addressed the criticisms over his suggestion to revise the few lines of “Lupang Hinirang” after drawing flak.
“Maraming mahina intindimiento (sic). Ayaw n’yo? Huwag!” Sotto said quoted by Manila Bulletin.
He explained that the translation from the original version causes the wrong cadence of words in the lyrics.
The Palace also finds Sotto’s proposal as unnecessary since there are more serious issues in the country need to be resolved.
Joey Ayala has also shared Sotto’s sentiment and gave a more positive ending to the Philippine anthem by replacing the last line with “ang magmahal nang dahil sayo”.
