An old woman in this touching photo captured the hearts of netizens
A touching photo of an old woman buying canned goods in a grocery store captured the hearts of many netizens.
Facebook user Earl John Madarico uploaded the said photo last September 19. In the photo, an old woman was sitting in front of a rack of canned goods.
According to Madarico the old woman asked a salesman the total amount of the goods she is going to buy.
She just bought one can each of sardines, corned beef and beef loaf. The netizen overheard the old woman as she said, “meron naman senior na discount dba? meron pa naman akong 25 pesos na natira makakauwi pa siguro ako nito.”
Upon hearing those words, Madarico did not hesitate to lend a helping hand to the old woman.
At first, she was hesitant to accept the money but she thanked the netizen afterwards for helping her.
The old woman in the touching photo said that someone just asked her to buy the canned goods so her money is just enough.
Madarico then said on his post that what he saw was the effect of inflation in the Philippines. According to him, poor citizens of the country are the ones who are most affected by this problem.
“Di tayo ang pinaka mahihirapan but the poorest of the poor and mga matatanda wala ng nag aalaga sa kanila,” he wrote.
The netizen also pointed out that whether one is pro or anti government, the bottom line is that inflation affects all individuals.
“No matter what is your political affiliation let’s all agree na something has to be done,” Madarico added.
He concluded that in the midst of this situation, Filipinos can just “hope, pray and mag higpit ng sinturon to survive. “
