Red Alert Status In The Following Regions Raise By OCD Ahead Of Typhoon Mangkhut

The Offices of Civil Defense (OCD) have raised red alert status over several regions in the country ahead of upcoming Typhoon Mangkhut.

On Tuesday (September 11, 2018), the offices of OCD have issued a red alert status over the Cordillera Administrative Region and Region 1, 2, and 3 in preparation for the impending typhoon, which was expected to hit the country this week.

PAGASA said that the typhoon will be named “Ompong” once it entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Rescue equipment and relief goods have been already prepared for the provinces expected to be hit by Typhoon Ompong, according to Undersecretary and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Executive Director Ricardo Jalad.

The public was also advised to prepare their emergency kits and follow the orders of the authorities for their own safety.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is also considering adding more relief goods and allocated about P1.7 billion fund ahead of Ompong.

Currently, Typhoon Mangkhut has maximum sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 195 kph.
