MMDA – The Metro Manila District Authority (MMDA) recently said that there will be no number coding on August 21 (Tuesday).

Following up in the recent report, Malacañang Palace declared last week that there will be no class due to the celebration of two holidays. President Duterte signed Proclamation No. 556 on Wednesday night (August 15), which would declare the holiday.

The first holiday is Eid’l Adha or the Feast of Scrifice, the second of the two Islamic holidays. The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) recommended that the event should be observed on that day, according to the proclamation.

The second one is the Ninoy Aquino Day, which commemorates the death of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.

That being said, the MMDA posted on their tweet on August 19 (Sunday) that the Number Coding will be suspended on August 21.

The number coding, also known as the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program was first implemented in Metro Manila back in 1995. The main purpose of the program is to reduce traffic jam by restricting vehicles based on the last digit number on their plates.

For example, no vehicles with plates that end in digits 1 and 2 are restricted on Monday.

Thus on August 21, due to the holiday, MMDA decided to hold it off for that particular day and for the same reason.
