Barangay Ginebra Earns 2018 Commisioner’s Cup Title, Wins The Game Against San Miguel, Thompson Named As MVP
BARANGAY GINEBRA – Barangay Ginebra fans cheered with glory and joy as the Gin Kings defeated the San Miguel Beermen in 2018 Commisioner’s Cup.
On the 2nd half of the game, the Gin Kings launch a full-on assault against San Miguel and easily won the game with the score of 93-77. This victory is yet another addition to their collection.
Tim Cone, Barangay Ginebra’s coach, said that San Miguel is indeed the best team but for this night, the Gin Kings are the champions. He later added that San Miguel will be the best team again tomorrow.
Even more, Scottie Thompson, one of their players, is declared Finals MVP. Thompson is a two-way guard on his third year, with an average of 10.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.2 assists in the series.
According to a report from Inquirer, Thompson characterized the team’s hunger in defeating the Beermen. He is also the first player to earn the title of the league’s Honda Philippines Finals MVP.
Cone said that Scottie deserved it as he never had a downtime and he has incredible energy. Thompson is also one of the main guns, along with Justin Brownlee, who made 31 points and 19 rebounds. The Kings also drew power from Greg Slaughter and LA Tenorio, who made a three-point shot.
As per the report, nobody believed that the Kings can reach the finals and face the San Miguel Beermen in six games. Cone, too, was surprised that they were down 1-5, yet they were able to match up with the Beermen and win the series.
