The terminal is one of the newest places to be proud of in Cebu because of its modern design yet evokes tropical and resort-like feel.

Recently, the Facebook page “Cebu Flash Report” has uploaded the photos of Mactan Cebu International Airport being entered by floodwaters.

In the photos, it can be seen that the airport terminal was flooded due to the heavy rains brought by the inclement weather condition over the past few days.

The social media users have also expressed their reactions regarding the post:

Lorelie Villeno Tierney: “I believe the designer underestimated the size of the drainage system. Granting the airport is very close to the sea! That’s what contractors always have to bear in mind. The drainage system should be sufficient enough to accommodate times such as heavy downpours.

Not maligning anyone! But we are often resulting to substandard stuff to make more profit!

The result is devastating.

With the area of the airport a sprawling terrain it should have been an enormous culvert underneath installed. And a catch basin too. Before it will finally drain down and out!”

Phillip Michael Garner: “Why? This type of problem is inexcusable. Who is responsible for the planning? We’re shortcuts taken? There should be an inquiry and someone needs to pay.”

Annabelle Gravelijn: “OMG! How are the arrving passengers going to move around with their baggage? Had the contractors not thought about elevating the building prior to construction? Probably not! Hence this disaster! Shame! And i am coming home in October!”

Joven Baclado: “The design is not adaptable to heavy rains. Must be closed roof and ground must be elevated. Drainage is good otherwise”

Roel Daito: “ The contractor will be responsible of fixing this matter….so what’s the problem.”
