DepEd, KWF Release Memorandum, Theme for ‘Buwan ng Wika’ 2018

BUWAN NG WIKA – The Department of Education and Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) released the memorandum containing the theme for the ‘Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa 2018’ celebration.

One of the yearly events that is celebrated in the Philippines is the ‘Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa’ or the National Language Month. Based on a report, it is the Department of Education and Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino that lead the event.

The annual celebration of the ‘Buwan ng Wika’ is in line with Proclamation No. 1041 series of 1997 which declares the celebration of the event every August. It was signed by former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos.

Aside from the said Proclamation No., the birth date of former President Manuel Quezon, the Father of the National Language, is also in August – specifically August 19, 1878.

For the ‘Buwan ng Wika 2018’ celebration, the DepEd and the KWF recently released the official memorandum containing the theme for the celebration – “Filipino: Wika ng Saliksik.”

Based on the memo released by DepEd and KWF, the celebration is line with the following goals:

• To implement Proclamation No. 1041 series of 1997
• To encourage the different public and private agencies to join events like ‘Buwan ng Wika’ that increases language and civic awareness
• To encourage the Filipino people to give importance to the national language through an active participation in the activities in line with the celebration
