Concerned Netizens Call DENR’s Attention After This Group Illegally Takes Protected Corals

Concerned netizens are now calling the attention of DENR after this group of people illegally takes protected corals from the sea.

Corals are marine invertebrates in the class Anthozoa of phylum Cnidaria that takes thousands of years before it was formed.

Coral poaching is illegal causing harm to the living coral reefs and can affect the aquatic creatures living in the sea.

Anyone who will be caught taking corals will face corresponding sanctions and penalties for committing an environmental violation.

Recently, a Facebook user named Natskie Jacintos is calling the attention of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) after a netizen identified as Sever Hermoso Ablao together with its colleagues took protected corals.

In the post, it can be seen that Ablao and its colleagues were handling corals after not seeing dolphins during their sight-seeing activity in Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental.

  1. This is obviously a violation of Section 96 of RA 10654 (Fisheries Code of the Philippines) na may kaparushan
    1.Imprisonment of 10-20 years, Multang 8x ng halaga ng corals na kinuha sa 500, 000 hanggang 10, 000, 000.
    2. Pagbayad ng anumang gagastusin sa restoration ng pinsala sa coral reefs.
    Plus kung nasa protected area naman ay violation sa section 20 (1) ng NIPAS ACT, RA 7586
    Fine of 5, 000 — 500, 000 at pgkakakulong ng 1-6 na taon
