Liberal Party Urges Agot Isidro To Run For 2019 Senatorial Race

The Liberal Party (LP) was considering of placing the actress Agot Isidro on their senatorial slate for the 2019 mid-term elections.

On Monday (May 21, 2018), Senator Francis Pangilinan said that the LP was urging Agot Isidro to run as senator for the election next year.

The ruling party considered the actress, a vocal critic of President Rodrigo Duterte under their senatorial slate because of her opinion on extra-judicial killings (EJK) and Chinese invasion in the Philippine territory.

“Of course, she was hesitant. But then we said, precisely, that we need more women to step up and so she said, ‘Okay, you can consider it but let me think about it also. We’re still convincing her,” Pangilinan said quoted by ABS-CBN.

Last year, Agot Isidro has been the headlines of numerous local news outlets and social media pages after calling President Duterte a “psychopath”.

Senator Pangilinan said that former interior secretary Mar Roxas has initially declined their offer for the senatorial slate.

The lawmaker also revealed that the LP’s senatorial slate will be led by re-electionist Senator Bam Aquino.

Pangilinan also said that Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano, lawyer Jose Manuel “Chel” Diokno, LP vice president for external affairs Erin Tañada, and former Akbayan representative Barry Gutierrez are also included on the senatorial line-up.
