Australian Nun Sister Patricia Fox Admits Joining Rallies & Protests

The 71-year-old Australian nun Sister Patricia Fox admitted that she joined several rallies and protests in the Philippines

Sister Patricia Fox has submitted a counter affidavit regarding the deportation case filed against her because of her alleged involvement in several protests in the country.

The Australian nun’s submission of her counter-affidavit at the office of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) coincides with the rally of her supporters.

Sister Pat has been accused of violating the Section 37 of Philippine Immigration Act of 1940 prohibiting foreigners to join any political activities in the Philippines.

Fox filed a 26-page counter affidavit wherein she admits of engaging in some rallies with farmers, workers, and less-fortunate people fighting for their rights.

The nun was also accused of carrying banners during the protests with words written “Stop the Killings,” “Respect Human Rights,” “Resume Peace Talks,” and “Implement Agrarian Reforms.”

However, the elderly nun clarified that she finds nothing wrong for joining protest fighting for social justice and human rights, which is a part of her missionary work as a Sisters of Our Lady of Scion.

Fox also cited the Bill of Rights in the 1987 Constitution that the freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom of expression are not only for Filipinos but also for foreigners based on the early decision of the Supreme Court (SC).

The religious personnel has also submitted a supplemental motion for reconsideration against BI for revoking her missionary visa for allegedly violating her right to due process.
