Chinese Seismologists Says N. Korea Nuclear Test Site Partially Collapsed
The Chinese seismologists concluded that the North Korea’s nuclear test site has partially collapsed following last year’s bomb explosion.
Last week, North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un declared that his regime would stop the long-range nuclear missile tests.
Kim also said to shut down the nuclear site at Punggye-Ri under Mount Mantap in the northeast part of their country.
The communist country had launched five of its six nuclear tests at the site causing a 6.3 magnitude earthquake, which was felt across the northern border with China.
The bomb blast was followed by strong tremors and landslides resulting to speculations that the nuclear site suffered from tired mountain syndrome.
Chinese experts have conducted two studies and found that a magnitude 4.1 aftershock jolts the area causing a rock inside the mountain to collapse.
“It is necessary to continue monitoring possible leaks of radioactive materials caused by the collapse incident,” University of Science and Technology of China said quoted by MSN.
Another group of Chinese scientists concluded that the aftershock might either a second explosion or a triggered tectonic earthquake.
