Pinoy Boxer Manny Pacquiao & Coach Freddie Roach Part Ways After Working Together For 17 Years
The Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and his coach Freddie Roach are parting ways after working together for 17 years.
Pacquiao’s Canadian agent Mike Koncz announced that the Filipino boxer has decided to leave Freddie Roach and placed Buboy Fernandez as the trainer for his next match.
The Pinoy boxer will face the Argentinian boxer Lucas Matthysse who was currently holding the World Boxing Association welterweight title.
“Manny has told me that Buboy will be handling the training on this fight, What’s important to Manny is that he has one voice to listen to in the corner that he trusts, and I guess that’s Buboy for this fight,” Koncz said quoted by Manila Bulletin.
Freddie Roach last worked the corner in July 2017 during Pacman’s fight with the Australian boxer Jeff Horn in Brisbane, Australia.
The 58-year-old coach and Pacquiao had started working together in mid-2001prompting the 39-year-old boxer to beat Lehlo Ledwaba and won the International Boxing Federation super-bantam title.
The team-up of Pacman and Roach made a mark in the sport’s history after beating some of the world’s greatest boxers including Oscar De La Hoya, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton and Antonio Margarito.
