Lea Salonga to add another recognition on the long list of her achievements
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce recently offered a sneak peek at the upcoming Hollywood Walk of Fame star for singer-actress Lea Salonga, making her the first Filipina to receive this prestigious distinction.
Inducted as part of the Walk of Fame Class of 2026, Lea joins three other male celebrities of Filipino descent who have previously been honored, such as, Bruno Mars, Apl.de.ap, and Rob Schneider.
The official ceremony will mark the 2,855th star on the historic landmark. It is scheduled for September 4 (early September 5 in the Philippines) at 6225 Hollywood Boulevard, right outside the Pantages Theatre, based on the article in The Philippine Star.
The event will be hosted by TV personality Sibley Scoles and will feature guest speeches from Darren Criss, Brandy, and Ming-Na Wen. Notably, Wen was the speaking voice for the title character in Disney’s Mulan, while Lea Salonga provided the iconic singing voice.
Aside from being the singing voice of Mulan, Lea is also universally celebrated as the singing voice of Princess Jasmine in Aladdin.
Meanwhile, Lea recently shared the stage with Brandy and other Disney stars to perform the iconic duet “A Whole New World” during the “Disney Princess: The Ultimate Concert Celebration.”
Her legacy continues to pave the way for other artists; Darren Criss recently became the first male actor of Filipino descent to win a Tony Award, following Salonga’s own historic 1991 win for “Miss Saigon.”
Fellow Filipino-American Nicole Scherzinger also took home an acting Tony during the very same ceremony.
These milestones are part of a celebratory week for Lea Salonga, who is also set to be honored with the prestigious Icon Award at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Manila International Film Festival.
