About 289 Barangay Official Candidates Listed On Narco List

About 289 barangay official candidates were closely monitored by the Philippine National Police (PNP) after listed on narco list.

The PNP is now closely monitoring the over 289 barangay officials of their alleged involvement on illegal drugs linked to the upcoming elections on May 14.

PNP Spokesman P/Chief Supt. John Bulalacao made the statement based on the available data released by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

Barangay Official Candidates

The 289 barangay officials are consisting of 143 Chairman and 146 Kagawad wherein most of them are running for the upcoming Barangay and Sanggunian ng Kabataan (SK) elections in their area of jurisdictions.

PDEA records show that most of the officials allegedly came from Mindanao where Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (BADAC) was not implemented due to alleged tension between the government forces and the terrorists.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) were also calling the public’s attention not to vote for the officials involved on illegal drugs.

DILG also said that people should not vote for the candidates who were more than three terms in service.

Meanwhile, Bulalacao also said that the crackdown on illegal drugs will continue, align with President Duterte’s goal to eliminate the illegal drugs in the country.
