Filipino Reporter Anthony Taberna Apologizes Over Controversial Remarks On Rape Victim
The Filipino newscaster Anthony Taberna has issued an apology for his controversial remarks about a rape victim after earning online criticisms.
Previously, the Kapamilya reporter and news anchor Anthony Taberna or locally known as “Ka Tunying” drew flak from the social media users for alleged rape victim-blaming on Umagang Kay Ganda.
The report discusses the 19-year-old girl who was raped by three men after meeting up with her chatmate and drinking alcoholic beverages with them in Caloocan City.
Taberna commented that woman should not go inside a den of thieves, which netizens assumed that the reported was blaming the rape victim because of her decision.
Ka Tunying receives a lot of criticisms from the social media users for the alleged victim-blaming.
On Wednesday (February 21, 2018), the 43-year-old reporter has apologized for his distasteful remarks towards the rape victim and promised to be careful next time.
“Humihingi po ako ng paumanhin sa mga nasaktan sa aking komento at mas magiging maingat po ako sa susunod na pagkakataon,” Taberna said quoted by Rappler.
The TV host clarified that he never meant to make it that it was the victim’s fault, instead, he just wants justice to be served for the victim.
