The Korean embassy has donated an amount of P10 million for the victims of Mayon volcano eruption in Albay, Bicol province.
On Thursday (February 08, 2018), Philippines Han Dong-man handed an amount of P10 million to assist the Philippine Red Cross’ relief, recovery, and rehabilitation operations in Albay, according to Senator Richard Gordon.
The Korean ambassador said that the amount was meant to help over 20, 000 families affected by the volcano eruption who are now facing health risks because of the volcanic ashes.
Han also said that Korea will always support the Philippines in times of need because of the country’s help during Korean War.
“Korea will always appreciate the support that the Philippines have given during the Korean War. As a friend to Filipinos, therefore, Korea is committed to providing the necessary assistance in this time of need,” Han said quoted by Inquirer.
Gordon lauded the Korean Embassy for their continuous support to the country. He also said that the foreign aid will be used to buy clean water, hygiene kits, and construction of additional comfort rooms in 59 evacuation centers with thousands of evacuees.
PRC has also sent hygiene and sleeping kits to 1, 900 families, hot meals for about 3, 800 individuals, and psychosocial support to almost 12, 000 evacuees.
