Mayon Volcano Latest Updates Released By Phivolcs
The state seismology agency Phivolcs has released the latest updates regarding the intense but sporadic lava fountaining of Mayon Volcano.
On Friday (January 26, 2018), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that Mayon Volcano continued to spew red-hot lava on its summit crater, which lasted from 26 to 57 minutes.
The volcanology agency said on its 8:00 am bulletin that Mt. Mayon had seven episodes of lava fountaining shooting up to 500 meters high and producing ash plumes reaching of up to three kilometers high above the crater.
Phivolcs has also recorded about 15 volcanic earthquakes and 19 tremor events including seven lava fountaining events.
Mt. Mayon is currently under alert 4, which indicates a possible hazardous eruption might occur anytime. Countless rock fall and lava collapse events were also possible.
About 83, 533 people have been affected by the volcano eruption, according to the latest report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
President Rodrigo Duterte was also set to visit the families affected by the eruption of Mt. Mayon but there was still no specific date has been set yet, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
