Tail-End Of Cold Front, Northeast Monsoon Affects Philippines, PAGASA Says

The state weather bureau PAGASA said that the tail-end of a cold front and northeast monsoon or known as ‘Amihan’ is affecting the Philippines.

On Wednesday (January 17, 2018), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the eastern section of Central and Southern Luzon are affected by the tail-end of a cold front.

While Northern Luzon is also affected by the northeast monsoon or locally known ‘Amihan’.

Northeast Monsoon

Sheila Reyes, a weather forecaster at PAGASA said on the agency’s 24-hour forecast that the areas of Caraga, Visayas, and the rest of Mindanao would experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to a low-pressure area (LPA).

The tail-end of a cold front could also bring thunderstorms and scattered rain showers in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, MIMAROPA and the Bicol region.

The weather agency also forecasted that cloudy skies with isolated rains will be experienced over Cagayan Valley Region, Ilocos Region and the Cordillera Administrative Region due to the northeast monsoon.
