Malacañang Palace Advices Maria Ressa, Pia Ranada of Rappler To Get Accreditation As Bloggers

Malacañang Palace has advised Maria Ressa and Pia Ranada of the local news website Rappler to apply for accreditation as bloggers.

Previously, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has revoked the license to operate of the local news outlet ‘Rappler’ over alleged violation on foreign ownership.

President Rodrigo Duterte was also claiming that the local news website is fully controlled by Americans.

However, the news site denied the accusations and insisted that the company was still 100 percent Filipino-owned.

Recently, Palace has advised Maria Ressa and Pia Ranada of Rappler to apply for accreditation in Malacañang as bloggers.

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said that Ressa and Ranada could still pursue their job as bloggers despite the SEC’s order to close Rappler.

Presidential Communications Undersecretary Lorraine Badoy was the person in-charge for the accreditation of bloggers who wanted to cover the activities of President Duterte.

Roque was repeatedly blaming Rappler on the SEC’s decision to the cancellation of company’s license to

operate for allegedly violating the 1987 Constitution restricting on foreign ownership of mass media.

The spokesman was also insisting that Rappler stand on their position despite the chance given to them by SEC to revise their Articles of Incorporation through a show-cause order.
