French Drugmaker Sanofi Pasteur Agreed To DOH To Pay Refund For Unused Dengvaxia Vaccines

The French drugmaker Sanofi Pasteur has already agreed to the Department of Health (DOH) to pay a refund for unused Dengvaxia.

Last year, the anti-dengue vaccine “Dengvaxia” has been the center of health scare in the Philippines after Sanofi Pasteur has announced the negative effects of the vaccine to those who don’t have prior dengue infection.

DOH also demanded a refund from the French pharmaceutical giant to pay for unused dengue shots amounting P1.4 billion.

Recently, Sanofi Pasteur has agreed to refund the unused doses of the controversial Dengvaxia vaccine.

“Rather Sanofi Pasteur hopes that this decision will allow us to be able to work more openly and constructively with the DOH to address the negative tone toward the dengue vaccine in the Philippines today,” Sanofi said quoted by Philstar.

Sanofi was also hoping that the public’s impression with the dengue vaccination will remain positive in high endemic countries despite the lack of awareness and misunderstanding of its risk.

The drug company aims to restore the trust of the public in vaccination programs as it requests a meeting with DOH to discuss reimbursement and inform the public.

DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III has sent two demand letters to Thomas Triomphe, the head of Sanofi Pasteur Asia-Pacific asking a refund for the unused vaccines.

Duque has also requested the French drug company to conduct serotesting of over 830, 000 individuals who received the dengue vaccination, but the cost will still be charged to Sanofi.
