Malacañang To Pursue Public School Teacher’s Salary Increase
Malacañang Palace has insisted to pursue the salary increase for the public school teachers during President Duterte’s term.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press briefing that President Duterte will pursue to increase the salaries of the public school teachers.
Roque’s statement was a response to the opinion of Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Ben Diokno that doubling teacher’s salary was not a priority.
The officials also supported Duterte’s vow to increase the salary of both police and military, which might be implemented this month.
Mr. Duterte has already ordered his Cabinet members to find ways to increase the teacher’s salary, according to Roque.
“The President says he wants to increase the salary of teachers. He does not go back on his promises. He will increase the salary of teachers by as much as we can,” Roque said quoted by Manila Bulletin.
However, the presidential spokesperson said that they have no idea regarding how much the pay will increase, but he assured that the teacher’s salary will be increased.
He also even asked the teachers to be patients while waiting for the pay hike as promised by President Duterte.
Meanwhile, the statement of Diokno saying teacher’s pay hike is not a priority has been described by groups of public school teachers called Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) as insensitive.
Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) National Chairperson Benjie Valbuena said that their teachers were glad hearing the good news because teachers were allegedly the most neglected sector in the society.
