Ex-Health Secretary Ubial Describes Dengvaxia Transaction as Disastrous Mix Of Health And Politics
Former health secretary Pauly Jean Ubial has described the anti-dengue vaccine Dengvaxia transaction as a disastrous mix of health and politics.
Dengvaxia vaccine has been one of the most discussed topics nationwide after the French drugmaker ‘Sanofi’ announced the negative effects of the anti-dengue shots to those who did not have a prior infection.
The dengue drug has been administered to more than 700, 000 students from public schools under the administration of former President Benigno Aquino III. An estimated 10 percent or about 70, 000 children were at risk of having severe dengue and other diseases.
In 2015, the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued the possible side effects of the anti-dengue vaccine and set requirements for the vaccination such as recipients should have at least 50 percent exposure to dengue.
However, Sanofi has released the warning about Dengvaxia was only released last November 29, 2017.
The lawmakers also found nothing illegal with Aquino’s decision about the vaccination program, but he was allegedly involved in the purchase of the Dengue drugs.
DOH former secretary Ubial explained that they were not conducting vaccination programs during elections and stressed that mixing politics and health leads to disaster.
“We do not conduct vaccination programs during elections as this would be tainted as a hidden agenda of somebody. Mixing politics and health will lead to disaster,” said by Paulyn Ubial.
