President Duterte Promised To Assist Maguindanao Massacre Victims During Meeting At Malacañang
President Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to help the Maguindanao massacre victims during their meeting at the Malacañang Palace.
On Thursday (November 23, 2017), Mr. Duterte met the families of the victims of the brutal Maguindanao massacre at the Music Room of the Malacañang Palace in a closed-door meeting.
The president has promised to assist the families of the victims under his administration. He also urged the Department of Justice (DOJ) to speed-up the trial regarding the case.
Duterte was together with Chief Executive are Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre and Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, who served as the former lawyer of the massacre victims.
The Maguindanao massacre case is an 8-year-old case wherein 58 people, including 32 media members were killed in Ampatuan town in Maguindanao.
Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said that the case might be completed in a year if the Supreme Court would adopt the first-in-first-out (FIFO) system.
“We suggested that the Supreme Court adopt the first-in-first-out (system). If it is adopted, there can be a decision against one or two of the accused within the year. Although there are 58 counts of murder, we only need one to put everyone behind bars. So for me, there is no need to wait for four years,” Roque said quoted by Philstar.
