PH-Russia Plans To Build Nuclear Plant Not Beneficial, Catholic Bishop Says
Catholic bishop Ruperto Santos has warned that the plan of Russia and Philippines to build nuclear plants in the country would not be beneficial.
Balanga Bishop Ruperto Santos has reacted to the possible development of a nuclear energy infrastructure in the Philippines. He even called the possibility of building floating or land-based nuclear power plants as “White Elephant.”
Santos was referring to the partnership of Russia’s State Atomic Energy Corp. Rosatom with the Department of Energy (DOE) to build another nuke plants in the Philippines.
“It will be useless and will be another example of a white elephant as the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) was,” Santos said quoted by Inquirer.
Both DOE and the Russian firm will also evaluate and look at the possibility if they could still reopen the BNPP.
Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi and Rosatom deputy director general Nikolay Spasskiy have signed the agreement during the 31st Association of South East Asian Nations Summit.

I’d rather see Russia come to the aid of the Phils and employ its advanced technology in the design/development/and building of safe and clean renewable type of energy generation such as wind turbines, the harnessing of wave energy, and the employment of solar energy gathering infrastructure which China has already employed in their vast desert stretches.
The same approach could also be applied to the Phils which enjoys superabundant exposure to sunlight being a tropical country.
Arrays of wind turbines/wave energy generators could be positioned along the coast facing the Pacific to exploit constant sources of incoming wind and wave power which pose no environmental risk to the country.
