CHO still verifies suspected Meningococcemia case in Bacolod City.

BACOLOD CITY – The City Health Office is yet to verify the suspected Meningococcemia case, the first for that matter, at the City of Bacolod in Negros Occidental.

Accordingly, to a certain health site, Meningococcemia is caused by the Neisseria meningitidis bacteria.

This type of bacteria is the same to the type of bacteria that causes meningitis.

Meningitis is when the bacteria infect the membranes which cover the brain and spinal cord and it is Meningococcemia if the infection remains in the blood.

The Neisseria meningitidis bacteria is a bacteria that is common in the upper respiratory tracts and do not necessarily cause illness.

Meningococcemia, in spite the fact that anyone can get it, is common mostly in babies, children, and young adults.

The infection brought by the said bacteria is considered a medical emergency and requires medical attention immediately.

Initially, the symptoms of Meningococcemia are fever, headache, rash consisting of small spots, nausea, irritability, and anxiety.

These symptoms are somewhat similar to that of the symptoms of dengue.

And according to a posted report of Bombo Radyo on its Facebook page, the City Health Office is yet to confirm the disease in Bacolod City to which for that matter the first case in the said city.

Based on the report, the head of the Environment and Sanitation of CHO, Dr. Grace Tan, said that they are still waiting for the result of the test of a five-year-old child from Bacolod.

The young patient died last November 12 at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

As per the source, the tests of the patient were passed by the CHO to the Regional Office and they are also waiting for the results from the regional hospital.
