Thousands Of People Attends Cardinal Vidal’s Burial In Cebu

Thousands of people in Cebu mourn as they attend the Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal’s burial on Thursday (October 26, 2017).

Last October 18, 2017, Archbishop Emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal died at the age of 86. His life ended at the Perpetual Succour Hospital in the province Cebu.

The mass and the funeral rites of Vidal was led by Archbishop Orlando Quevedo, Cardinal Gaudencio Rosales, and Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.

The burial of Cardinal Vidal has been attended by over 55, 000 Catholics, 25 bishops, more than 500 priests and nuns.

Several local government officials including Cebu Reps. Gwen Garcia, Raul del Mar, and Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Lloyd Dino also attended Vidal’s burial to pay their last respect for the archbishop who served Cebu for nearly three decades.

The remains of the Cebu Archbishop was buried in the mausoleum at the cathedral beside Julio Cardinal Rosales who ordered to build it in 1983.

The family of Vidal, Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, Rosales, Tagle and Quevedo were the only people allowed to enter the mausoleum inside the cathedral.
