Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake Hits Cagayan, Ilocos Region

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) announced that a magnitude 5.1 earthquake has struck Cagayan and Ilocos region.

Around 6:08 am on early Wednesday morning (August 30, 2017), Calayan Cagayan and some parts of Ilocos regions have been shaken by a magnitude 5.1 earthquake, according to the announcement of the state volcanology agency.

Phivolcs said that the powerful tremor had a depth of 13 km and located at 19.13°N, 121.20°E – 033 km S 58° W of Calayan, Cagayan. While an Intensity of 2 was felt by the residents from some parts of Ilocos region.

Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake

The volcanology agency also explained that Intensity II was recorded in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte, and Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

As of now, there are still no records of damages either casualties were reported to the authorities. There are also no tsunami alerts has been raised, but the volcanology agency warned the residents of the affected areas to expect possible aftershocks.
