Child Warriors Joins Terrorists In Marawi Battlefield, Military Says

The military said that child warriors have already joined the ISIS inspired terrorist group on the battlefield in Marawi City.

On Monday (August 28, 2017), Col. Edgar Arevalo, Armed Forces public affairs chief said that the civilians who have been released from the captivity of the extremists confirmed that there are child warriors involved in the group.

“Ayon po kasi sa mga nakausap na ng ating mga sundalo — iyung mga sibilyan na nakatakas po sa pagiging hostage — talaga pong mayroong mga bata, mga menor de edad na andoon sa hanay ng mga Maute,” said by Arevalo quoted by ABS-CBN.

Arevalo also said that a certain mother told him that her son could be one of the child warriors in Marawi after it has been kidnapped 7 years ago.

Another report stated that a resident named Rowhanisa Abdul Jabar also claiming that her son Ram-Ram is now an armed child after he was kidnaped when he was three-years old. The photo of Ram-Ram has been posted by the Islamic State Group in the social media.

The AFP chief claims that their intelligence community is verifying the authenticity of the Phoro to determine if the child was really Ram-Ram.

Meanwhile, the conflict zone in Marawi City has been confined to 500 square meters and the crisis was expected to end in a few days as there are 50 to 60 remaining terrorist’s members are left.

The officials also said that the remaining militants could possibly use their hostages as human shields and set off bombs in the area, but they assure that they will carefully pursue the operation to end the crisis despite the danger.

Arevalo said that their morale remains high after President Rodrigo Duterte has visited them for the third time to visit the wounded soldiers without wearing a bulletproof vest in the conflict zone.
