DA Seized About 19, 000 kg Of Chicken In Cagayan De Oro

About 19, 000 kilograms of dressed chicken was seized by the Department of Agriculture for violating the ban to prevent the spread of bird flu.

Previously, the Department of Agriculture (DA) has banned the shipment of chicken from Luzon to different parts of the Philippines to prevent the spread of bird flu. DA’s statement came after the bird flu outbreak in the farming town of San Luis in the province of Pampanga.

On Wednesday (August 16, 2017), seized about 19, 000 kilograms of chicken was seized by the authorities. The fowls from Manila port in Luzon was supposed to be delivered in Mindanao before it was seized by the department.

Agriculture Sectary Emmanuel Piñol said that the personalities involved in the shipment will face criminal and administrative charges for violating the ban.

The chief quarantine officer in Batangas Port will also undergo an investigation for allegedly allowing the transportation of about 1, 500 eggs from Batangas, and Candaba, Pampanga going to Aklan.

Piñol also said that about 7-kilometer area in San Luis, Pampanga has been declared as control zone where 600, 000 fighting cocks, pigeons, quails, ducks, and chicken were set for slaughter. He also said that eggs and fowls are prohibited to be brought out of the controlled zone.
