Bela Padilla Gets Worried About the Content Children See Online
BELA PADILLA – As violent incidents in schools continue to make headlines, Bela Padilla is urging people to pay closer attention to what young viewers consume online.
Actress Bela Padilla has expressed concern over the type of content children are exposed to on social media, particularly amid a series of violent incidents reported in schools.
Bela shared her worries during her appearance as a guest on the latest episode of the vlog hosted by her “Life After You” co-star, Maricel Soriano, on Saturday, September 5. During their conversation, the two discussed the growing problem of people becoming chronically online and how constant exposure to digital content can affect younger generations.
Bela described the situation as troubling and connected her concerns to the violent incidents that have recently occurred in schools.
“Which I find very disturbing,” said. “May isa akong interview na binanggit ko ‘to. Nagwo-worry po ako sa generation ngayon, lalo ngayon ang dami nating nakikita na mga nangyayari sa schools na very violent, ‘di ba?”
The actress also compared today’s social media environment with the television experience she had while growing up. According to Bela, television programs were more controlled and easier for parents to monitor because shows had ratings, schedules, and commercial breaks.
“Kahit papaano, alam mo kung ano ‘yong i-expect mo sa TV today, ‘di ba. At mayro’n kang magulang na magsasabing, ‘Oops, ‘wag mong papanoorin ang part na ‘to,’” Bela said.
She further pointed out that television programs were subject to ratings and usually lasted for a limited amount of time.
“And may rating ang TV. Parang rated PG o kung anoman. Ta’s ang isang palabas po dati halos isang oras. At may commercial pa ‘yon. Humihinga ka po sa gitna.”
For Bela, social media presents a different challenge because users can quickly move from harmless videos to disturbing and violent material without warning.
“Kapag nag-scroll ka, kahit sa Instagram lang, video ng asong sumasayaw. One minute, sumasaya ka. [….] Next video, giyera. Mga batang putol-putol ang kamay. Na hindi dati natin napapanood sa TV,” the actress said.
Her comments come as concerns over school safety continue to grow. One of the latest reported shooting incidents inside a school happened at Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU) on August 18.
Bela’s remarks highlight the importance of being mindful of the content children encounter online and the potential impact of repeated exposure to violent material.
