Sandigan Bayan Orders Arrest Of Senator Gringo Honasan

The second division of Sandiganbayan has issued an arrest warrant for Senator Gringo Honasan and 9 other for alleged involvement in PDAF scam.

Senator Gregorio Ballesteros Honasan II or popularly known as Gringo Honasan was allegedly involved in the multi-billion peso Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) scam prompting the Sandiganbayan to file criminal charges against him.

The 69-year-old lawmaker is now facing two criminal cases of graft for the suspicious disbursement of P30 million from his pork barrel funds last 2012.

The Ombudsman cited some documents from June 2012 showing that the lawmaker has endorsed a non-government organization Focus Development Goals Foundation Inc.to release his pork barrel fund without completing all the requirements for approval.

Honasan’s request for fund release has been approved by the budget department with the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) as the implementing agency. The fund distribution to the NGO was meant for the livelihood projects of Muslim communities in Metro Manila and Zambales.

The lawmaker was the fourth senator to be charged with alleged involvement in PDAF scam. The cases filed against Honasan are bailable with an amount of P30, 000 per count.
