Magnitude 4.6 Quake Hits Surigao del Sur Province
On Wednesday (August 09, 2017), Phivolcs said that the province of Surigao del Sur has been struck by a magnitude 4.6 earthquake.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that a magnitude 4.6 quake has struck Surigao del Sur around 11:09 am on Wednesday late morning.
Phivolcs explained that the epicenter of the powerful tremor was located at 30 kilometers northwest of Tandag town with a depth of 27 kilometers, which is tectonic in origin.
The volcanology agency also said that the tremor makes hanging objects slight swing and moves the water from its container, but there are no major damage or injuries were recorded as of this writing.
Seismologists recorded Intensity II in Surigao City and Intensity I was felt in Bislig City. However, the agency was expecting aftershocks from the quake.
