Military Said Maute Brothers, Abu Sayyaf Leader Isnilon Hapilon Still Alive
The Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon and two of the Maute Brothers are still alive contradicting reports that they are already dead, military says.
On Monday (August 07, 2017), Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla, the spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said that the soldiers killed 2 members of Maute Brothers but they are not Omar and Abdullah Maute.
Padilla said that the 2 men killed in an encounter could possibly the younger siblings of Omar and Abdullah Maute. He also concluded that the two were still in Marawi City together with Isnilon Hapilon, the emir of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) in the Southeast Asia.
“Iyun pong ating mga nakuhang balita noong araw, na maaaring may 1 o 2 sa magkapatid ang nasawi, may indikasyon po na siguro iyung 2 sigurong mas bata — hindi po si Abdullah at Omar ang maaaring nasawi,” said by Padilla quoted by ABS-CBN.
The statement of the spokesperson was contradicting some reports stating that the leaders of the terrorist group died in an encounter in Marawi City.
An amount of P10 million reward for Hapilon and P5 million each for Omar and Abdullah has been offered by President Rodrigo Duterte for anyone who can point the two that can lead to their arrest. He also declares martial law throughout the entire region of Mindanao to control the situation in the beleaguered city.
The siege in Marawi City has started on May 23, 2017, after the government forces have raided the hideout of the Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon in Marawi City. The ISIS emir asked for reinforcement from Maute Terror Group who fought back the government forces.
The government forces were already making efforts to put an end on Marawi Crisis, especially now that the battle zone was reduced to only two and a half village. The Marawi Siege enters its 77th day on Monday and left about 690 people dead.
