Maute Group Willing To Swap Catholic Priest For Parent’s Freedom

The Maute Group is willing to release the Catholic Priest Fr. Teresito “Chito” Suganob in exchange for the freedom of their parents and other relatives.

On Monday (June 26, 2017), there are some reports stating the leader of Islamic State (IS)-inspired terrorists in Marawi City offers to swap Fr. Suganob in exchange of his parents Cayamora Maute and Farhana Maute.

An unnamed source was allegedly gone to a meeting with Abdullah Maute during the eight-hour ceasefire allowing Marawi residents to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. It said that the terrorist leader is will to leave the beleaguered city if the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) would intervene.

“If the MILF will intervene, they are ready to leave Marawi City. But if not, they will fight to the last drop of their blood,” said by the unnamed source quoted by Inquirer.

During the ceasefire, eight Muslim leaders went to the conflict zone in Marawi City together with rescue teams to talk with Abdullah Maute. The rescuers were able to pluck out six civilians, according to presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella.

The source also confirmed that Fr. Chito was alive after he had been captivated by the terrorist group. It also said that Maute was willing to release the priest if the government would also release his parents and relatives.

Ominta “Farhana” Maute, the mother of Maute brothers was arrested by the authorities in Masiu, Lanao del Sur province last June 09, 2017. While their father Cayamora Maute and his second wife were arrested in Davao City checkpoint.

The cousins of Mautes including Farida and Al Jadid Romato together Abdul Rahman Dimacula, Farida’s boyfriend have been arrested by the authorities in the port of Iloilo City.
