Malacañang Palace Hit Back At Aquino Over Criticism On Duterte’s Drug War

Aquino Slammed By Malacañang Palace For Criticizing Duterte’s War On Drugs

Malacañang Palace hit back at former President Benigno Aquino III over his criticism and distasteful remarks on Duterte’s war on drugs.

Previously, former President Aquino released distasteful remarks against the anti-illegal drug campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte. Aquino lambasted the war on drugs and said that nothing happens.

On Wednesday (August 02, 2017), Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella said in a statement that Aquino was only underestimating the result of the war on drugs trying to earn political capital.

Abella also said that the result of Duterte’s war on drugs has prompted over 11.3 million drug personalities to voluntarily surrender to the authorities as they fear for their lives.

The spokesperson also emphasized that over 96, 703 drug suspects have been arrested during the first of the anti-narcotic program of the current administration compared to 77, 810 drug suspects arrested in the entire term of Aquino administration.

In the first year of Duterte’s anti-illegal drug campaign, the authorities were able to seize about 2, 445.80 kilograms of an illegal substance compared to 3, 219.07 kilograms of drugs during the previous administration.

Aquino pointed out that there were only 1.8 million drug users in 2015, but Duterte claimed that there are around four million drug addicts in the country.

The result of the anti-illegal drug campaign of Duterte administration was described as successful so far, but Abella noted that the drug war was not yet over.

“Much ground has been gained in the campaign against hard drug traffickers and violators, but the mission is to end the demand, production, distribution, and sale of illegal drugs,” said by Abella quoted by GMA.
