The extended gun battle between the government forces and the Maute Terror Group in Marawi City severely affects its residents. The sporadic firefight between the two groups has turned the area into a chaotic scenery.
President Rodrigo Duterte has already declared martial law throughout the entire region of Mindanao to control the situation and prevent the extremists from going in other places. The government forces were already making their best to restore peace in the beleaguered city.
Recently, a netizen named Josephine Jaron Codilla has shared a story of a brave and selfless soldier who send money to his mother before he was killed in the siege in Marawi City. The soldier’s act breaks the heart of the netizens.
In the post, Codilla narrated that Pfc Ramonito “Bon Bon” Occeña got hospitalized for the injuries and wounds he got during the exchange of deafening gun shots in Marawi City on June 04, 2017.
Occeña got a chance to President Duterte and asked him to be reinserted in the frontlines of the soldiers to fight the extremists spreading terrorism in the beleaguered city on July 15, 2017.
The 27-year-old soldier asked his fellow injured soldier Pfc. Allan Benbinuto to send money to his mother Ma. Belinda V. Occeña in Sipalay City a day before Bon Bon was inserted into the battle.
Benbinuto also told Occeña to take good care of himself before he go back in the besieged city. The brave soldier died 10 days after was reinserted into the battle.
Allan also showed a piece of paper showing the details of remittance written by the late soldier.

“AGAIN, SOLDIER’S LAST THOUGHTS WERE OF HIS FAMILY
Even while Pfc Ramonito “Bon Bon” Occena was hospitalized for injuries sustained in Marawi, he was selfless and was thinking of family all the time.
After being wounded on June 4 and recuperating in a hospital where he had the opportunity to meet President Duterte, Pfc Occena “reinserted” into the frontlines on July 15 to fight the Maute terrorist group again.
A day before reinsertion, Pfc Occena, still single at 27, requested his friend, fellow wounded soldier Pfc Allan Benbinuto, to send money to his mother Ma. Belinda V. Occena in Sipalay City.
Pfc Benbinuto said he told Pfc Occena to take good care of himself. The latter, he said, even waved to him before he left.
Pfc Benbinuto showed me the piece of paper bearing the details of the remittance in Pfc Occena’s own handwriting.
“Magkakasama tayo, Mom, noong July 15 nung pinadala ko ito sa Palawan (Express) sa Iligan,” he said.
Ten days later, Pfc Occena died a hero’s death.”
