The Judicial and Bar Council Released The Shortlist For The Upcoming Vacancy In Supreme Court Justice
The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has released the shortlists for Supreme Court Justice Post to replace Associate Justice Bienvenido L. Reyes.
On Friday (June 23, 2017), a shortlist of 7 nominees including six Court of Appeals justices and associate law dean has been released by JBC during its regular meeting. The nominees will fill the upcoming 15 slots vacancy in the Supreme Court.
President Rodrigo Duterte will pick from the list of nominees to replace Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes who is retiring this coming July 06, 2017. The appointment to the Supreme Court will be Duterte’s third after appointing Associate Justices Noel Tijam and Samuel Martires last March 2017.
The shortlist was topped by Court of Appeals Presiding Justice Andres Reyes Jr. who got seven votes. While Associate Justices Rosmari Carandang and Jose Reyes Jr. got six votes each.
Associate Justices Apolinario Bruselas Jr., Japar Dimaampao and Centro Escolar University School of Law and Jurisprudence Associate Dean Rita Linda Ventura-Jimeno garnered five votes each. While Associate Justice Amy S. Lazaro-Javier got four votes.
