At Least 60 Policemen Went Missing Since Maute Group Attacked Marawi City

About 60 policemen went missing in Marawi City since the Maute Terror Group attacked the city and fought back government forces on May 23, 2017.

On Monday (June 12, 2017), the families and relatives of the missing policemen confirmed that there is no news about them until now. They were already worried about their loved ones who does not response with their messages.

A relative of a missing policeman said that the superiors of the missing cops still do not want to announce that they are missing. As of now, there is further information and details regarding the location of the policemen.

60 Policemen

Camp Crame officials were already monitoring developments in searching the exact location of the missing cops, according to a brother of one of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) police.

On May 31, 2017, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa has already announced that at least six cops gone missing in the ongoing gun battle between the Maute group and government forces.

One of the missing cops reportedly sent a text message to his colleague and said that he is hiding in a house occupied by the extremists.

60 Policemen

Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, the ground commander in Marawi said that all policemen in the area were already conducting a rescue and retrieval operation to locate the missing cops.

“I’m not aware that there are a number of policemen who failed to report for duty because as far as Marawi is concerned, all policemen were accounted for,” said by Tayaba quoted by Philstar.

The policemen were also ordered to adopt the buddy system for their own safety, according to Chief Superintendent Theodore Sindac, ARMM police director. He also said that policemen who failed to report on duty could have been stocked due to ongoing clash.
