Huge Mola-Mola Caught By Fisher Folks Of Puerto Princesa

A huge mola-mola or known as “Sunfish” was caught by the fisher folks in the shoreline of Barangay Sta. Lourdes in Puerto Princesa City.

On Saturday (May 20, 2017), the fisher folks of Barangay Sta. Lourdes in Puerto Princesa caught a huge mola-mola while catching fishes in the ocean. At first, the fishermen were afraid to go near the sea creature because of its size.

The fishermen also noticed that the huge sea creature is wounded and already dead. The residents have also estimated that the huge Sunfish is weighing around 22 kilograms due to its incredible size.

The residents of Puerto Princesa immediately reported that incident to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) office. They have also decided to take part of the giant fish for their meal.

Sunfish is also known as common mola or “Mola-mola,” the world’s heaviest known bony fish. Adult sunfish usually weigh between 247 up to 1, 000 kilogram and can be usually found in tropical and temperate waters worldwide.

Mola-mola also belongs to “Pelagic Fish” living in the deep part of the ocean.
